The heartbeat

There are certain things I just love the sound of. Thunderstorms, a huge sports stadium erupting when the home team does something great, a Spanish guitar. But nothing beats the sound of your own baby's heartbeat.

We got to hear it at our appointment on Tuesday and it sounded strong and steady; my midwife said it was "perfect." It certainly sounded perfect to me. At our last appointment, we got to see the heart beat flickering on the ultrasound monitor. That was really great, but actually hearing it was even better.

We even heard the baby kick and move away from the sonogram tool, as if to say, "Hey, leave me alone, I'm trying to sleep in here! Sheesh."

Other than that exciting moment, the appointment was very routine. We asked some questions and chatted about how the pregnancy was progressing.

And then we made our next appointment -- the BIG appointment. On April 16, we will *hopefully* find out if that amazing heartbeat belongs to a baby boy or a baby girl. Of course, the ultrasound is important for other reasons, too. They'll do a lot of measurements to make sure the baby's heart is healthy and growing the way it should.

I am beyond excited. I want to SHOP, dang it! :)

  2. The most amazing sounds in the world are:
hearing that heartbeat for the first time
    your newborns first cry
the first full blown belly laugh
the first time they say the words " I love you" to you.

Enjoy every second of pregnancy and beyond. They get big way too fast.
