12 weeks

As you know, we headed to Babies R Us this weekend to buy our awesome stroller/car seat travel system. This was the first time either of us had been in a Babies R Us store, and we were like kids in a candy store.

I wouldn't have pegged us for the type to swoon over all things baby, but we sort of were. Pack n' plays, cribs, dressers, swings, gliders... we enjoyed it all. As we neared the baby clothing area, Mike had a brilliant idea: maybe we should buy the baby his/her first outfit! We knew it would be a challenge, because finding gender-neutral clothes is NOT an easy feat these days. We did agree that sports team stuff can be worn by a boy or girl, but we weren't excited to buy a Diamondbacks onesie, so we kept looking.

There were a couple of decent options, but nothing we were getting too excited about until I spotted this:

We have a certain way of saying the word "baby"... I can best describe it as "BAY-BAY", with equal emphasis on both syllables. As in, "Can you believe we're having a BAY-BAY!?" So when I saw that onesie, I said, "Look, it says, 'BAY-BAY!'" And then the tears welled up, ha. And that's how we knew it was the one we should buy.

As a bonus, it was on sale AND it came with three other cute onesies with different patterns in yellow and green. I do love a good deal.

Moving along... My 12-week survey recap for your reading pleasure:

*The baby is now the size of a... large fresh plum. A PLUM. That is the first piece of fruit that has really sounded big to me, and I can't believe there is a baby that large inside of me.

*How I'm feeling: Pretty good. My energy has been steadily increasing -- I stayed up until almost 11 p.m. both nights this weekend!!! I felt a bit nauseous this morning, but it wasn't bad enough to slow me down.

*Physical differences from last week: I have puffed out a bit. Still not "showing" to those who don't know me well, but I think I'm on my way!

*What's been on my mind: How to decorate the baby's room. I'm not big into the crib bedding sets with matching mobiles, night lights, etc. I'm more likely to just get some nice sheets and maybe a pretty quilt or something to throw on top. We're not going to paint the room, so it will stay a basic cream color, and the blinds we just installed in the room are a beige, too. We're going to get new carpeting, which will also be beige... and we'll have probably a darker wood furniture... so it's feeling very "brown." So I'm thinking that I might buy a fun rug to bring some color into the room. I figure that would be something that is easy and cheap to replace as the baby's personality develops and/or as it gets worn out. And it would be a fun "inspiration" piece to help decorate the rest of the room and tie everything together.

*What I'm looking forward to: Picking out a crib and dresser! That's next on our list. :)

*Other random thoughts: I have always had a hard time finding pants that fit me well. This has NOT become any easier now that I am shopping for maternity pants.

  1. i feel for you on the maternity pants, although you being so thin have the opposite problem im sure! they only seem to cater to those middle of the road, "average" sized girls in the maternity stores! not the thinner or fluffier gals! i had issues finding anything that wasnt butt ugly that fit me! although i have to say my fave poants EVER were the secret belly jeans at motherhood maternity. they even sold them in petite extra large! and i think they sell them in very small sizes too! check them out. most comfy maternty jeans ever.

  2. I saw some Motherhood Maternity clothing at Babies R Us, and a lot of it was REALLY cute, but kind of pricey. :-/ I don't know if that's because BRU jacked the prices up or if MM stuff is just expensive. Maybe it's a little cheaper at the actual store? Maybe I'll check them out for capris and stuff. I'm thinking I'll prob live in capris and dresses during the summer.
