Mike occasionally "talks" to the baby. Mostly he would just get right up to my stomach and softly say, "Hi baby. How are you? Get some good sleep tonight! I love you."
The baby can't actually hear him yet, so he hasn't done it too often. I expect the frequency to pick up in a few weeks, once I give him the green light that the baby is able to hear noises from outside the womb (this is also when I plan on making better choices about what I listen to on the radio during my commute).
Last night, he had another conversation with the baby, but this one was a little different. As usual, he got right up to my stomach, and then in an "outdoor" voice, said "HI BABY!"
It surprised me, and I started laughing hysterically, but Mike stopped to explain that in "The Expectant Father," a book he is reading, the writer advises that you speak at a level where someone across the room would be able to hear you.
"Oh, I didn't know that!" I told Mike. "Carry on."
So back to my stomach he goes.
"HI BABY! ... WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THERE? ... ARE YOU COMFORTABLE? ... DO YOU LIKE CABO? OOOOH CABO. MAYBE WE'LL TAKE YOU THERE SOME DAY ..."
And then the best part of all. He gave our baby his/her first lesson.
"ONE... TWO... THREE..."
Yes, he tried to teach our 16-week fetus how to count. If the baby comes out super smart, I think Dad will be able to take much of the credit.
